The No. 14 Baylor softball team (34-8) returns home for the first time in eight games to face UTSA (22-22) on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. at Getterman Stadium. The game will be the first of five in-a-row for the Lady Bears.
“It is great to be back home,” head coach Glenn Moore said. “We finished up a tiring part of our schedule and this next stretch is going to be extremely important.”
This will mark the second time the two schools have met this season, as Baylor defeated the Roadrunners 4-3 on Feb. 12 at Getterman Stadium.
The Lady Bears are coming off a weekend sweep at Kansas to put BU in third place in the Big 12. Senior shortstop Dani Leal leads the squad with a .371 average, 12 home runs, 29 RBI and a .781 slugging percentage. Baylor’s pitching staff is third in the Big 12 and eighth nationally with a 1.44 ERA, led by Whitney Canion’s 0.90 ERA.
Baylor is off to its second best record of all time through 42 games, only trailing the 2005 team’s 37-7 mark.
UTSA enters on a five-game winning streak after sweeping Central Arkansas over the weekend. Molly Fitchner leads the Roadrunners’ attack with a .372 average, 11 doubles, 10 home runs and 29 RBI. Caitlyn Ivy was named Southland Conference Hitter of the Week after going 8-for-17 (.471) with two home runs and nine RBI. The staff has a 3.60 ERA led by Danye Holmes 2.30 mark and 5-3 record.
Baylor leads the all-time series 17-12 and 9-5 in Waco.
