WACO, Texas - For the second time this season a power surge has given Baylor junior shortstop Jordan Strickland the Big 12 Hitter of the Week award. Strickland, who also earned the honor Feb. 11 was given the award Tuesday for her four home-run, 12 RBI performance at Oklahoma State this weekend.
Earlier in the year, Strickland homered three times and drove in nine runs at the UNLV Sportco Kick-Off Classic in Las Vegas. This time, Strickland tied a school record in consecutive games with two home runs in each of Baylor's Friday and Saturday wins at Oklahoma State to help the Lady Bears take the Big 12 series from the Cowgirls.
Strickland hit her second grand slam of the season and a three-run home run Friday in Baylor's 10-2 win over OSU. It set a new career high for her with seven RBI, and she added a single for good measure to match her season high with three hits. Saturday, in the series finale, Strickland hit another three-run homer and a two-run shot to help Baylor defeat OSU 8-0 in six innings.
She entered the series with five home runs and 15 RBI on the season and left Stillwater, Okla. with nine homers and 27 RBI.
