THE RUNDOWN
WACO, Texas – No. 16 Baylor (32-12) fell twice to Louisiana (35-7-1) Tuesday at Getterman Stadium falling 7-4 in game one and 5-2 in game two. ULL has now defeated Baylor three times this season.

In game one, ULL was scoreless fo four innings before scoring three runs in the fifth and two runs in the sixth to pull away from the Lady Bears. Holly Holl homered in the loss for BU and Whitney Canion picked up the loss in six innings of work.

In the second game, Baylor knotted the score at four in the bottom of the fifth when Riley Browder scored on a wild pitch, however, the Rajin’ Cajuns would score two in the sixth and one in the seventh to cap the sweep. Baylor had three errors in the field in the second game, and Heather Stearns picked up the loss in the circle for BU.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Ari Hawkins set a season-high with three hits in the first game. She also reached base five out of six times in the doubleheader; her single in the second game extended her hitting streak to a season-high six games.
  • Kaitlyn Thumann had a hit in each game to extend her hitting streak to seven games.
  • Holly Holl’s home run in the first game was the fourth of the season for the senior and the 12th of her career.
  • Clare Hosack drove in a run in game one to tie herself for ninth all-time on BU’s career RBI list with Tessa Lynn (95, 2004-06).

“We had a couple of breakdowns defensively in that second game that cost us the game, but I told our team after the game that Louisiana is a good ball club. They hit well and there’s a reason we brought them in for a midweek doubleheader. It’s because they’re a good team that will prepare us for Big 12 competition. I’m disappointed we didn’t come out with a win, but we’ll keep working to improve.”
