WACO, Texas - The No. 14 Baylor (33-12, 6-4) softball team plays host to Kansas (29-16, 3-6) in a three-game Big 12 series Friday through Sunday at Getterman Stadium. The Lady Bears and Jayhawks will open Friday at 6:30 p.m., will play on a Fox Sports Southwest broadcast Saturday at 3 p.m. and will close the series Sunday at Noon.
Baylor is coming off a series win over Oklahoma State in Stillwater, Okla. where the Lady Bears took the final two games of three-game set. However, BU has been busy since, dropping a doubleheader to No. 16 Louisiana-Lafayette Tuesday in Waco before rebounding to take a 7-1 win at UTSA Wednesday.
Kansas comes in with a six-game Big 12 losing skid falling to Texas Tech all three games April 17-19, and the Jayhawks dropped all three games at Oklahoma April 4-5. KU, did sweep Oklahoma State, however, in the last weekend March to account for its three league wins.
Both teams hang their hats on pitching taking the top two spots in team ERA for the Big 12. Baylor leads the category at a 1.63 mark while Kansas is second at 2.15. Both teams have a pair of 10-game winners with each ace, Baylor's Whitney Canion and Kansas' Kelsey Kessler, among the league leaders in most pitching categories.
Offensively, the teams are nearly equal in batting average with the Lady Bears hitting .302 and the Jayhawks hitting an even .300. Baylor holds the edge scoring 5.18 runs per game compared to KU's 4.69.
Baylor will be hosting "Robinson Day" at Getterman Stadium Friday evening. Robinson, Texas, a suburb of Waco, boasts two Lady Bear players in Lindsey Cargill and Sydney Betke, and the team will recognize Robinson's Little League team that finished fifth in the Little League World Series last spring.
