WACO, Texas - The No. 17-ranked Baylor (36-12) softball team will play host to North Texas (28-19) Tuesday at 6 p.m. and McNeese State (35-14) Wednesday at 5 p.m. at Getterman Stadium. These games are the final non-conference games of the season for Baylor, and Tuesday night's matchup between BU and UNT will air on Fox Sports Southwest Plus.
The Lady Bears are coming off a 4-2 week, which included a three-game Big 12 sweep of Kansas. Baylor dropped from No. 14 to No. 17 in both the NFCA and USA Softball polls Tuesday, but remained No. 13 in Monday's RPI rankings.
To ensure a host of the first round of the NCAA Regional Tournament beginning May 15, the Lady Bears will need to stay in the top 16 in RPI. Baylor is also two games behind Oklahoma, tied for second with Texas in the Big 12 with a 9-4 record while the Sooners are 11-2. All three schools have five conference games to spare.
The Mean Green come to town after Baylor took three out of four matchups with UNT last season. The Lady Bears hold a 26-8 all-time series lead over UNT and are 14-3 at home against them.
Wednesday, Baylor and McNeese State had originally planned a doubleheader, but the DH was reduced to a single game at 5 p.m. dropping Baylor to 55 regular season games. The Cowgirls will bring a 35-14 record to Waco, but have never defeated the Lady Bears at home in nine tries.
