Baylor softball student-athletes Nicole Wesley
and Tiffany Wesley
earned ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VI honors, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced Thursday. The twin sisters were each named to the first team for the second time in their careers.
Nicole and Tiffany will now be eligible for Academic All-American honors, as the Lady Bears have placed at least two players on the first team every year since 2005.
Nicole Wesley, a senior from Baton Rouge, has been named to the all-district team in each of the last three seasons, including a first team nod in 2008. She currently holds a 3.92 GPA in neuroscience and is having a career year, hitting .408 with three doubles, 12 RBI and 21 stolen bases.
Tiffany Wesley, a senior from Baton Rouge, was named to the all-district team for the second-consecutive season after being named a second-team Academic All-American in 2009. She has a 3.95 GPA in health science studies/pre-med and is batting .360 with eight doubles, two triples, two home runs, 21 RBI and 16 stolen bases.
Baylor is one of only two Big 12 schools that had more than one student-athlete on the first team, joining Nebraska, which had three.
Baylor returns to action this evening, facing No. 12 Texas in its conference home finale beginning at 6:30 p.m. at Getterman Stadium.
