INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -
The Baylor softball team (33-20) will hit the road to begin its NCAA Championship quest, traveling to the Lafayette Regional beginning on Friday, May 18 with a match-up against Stanford (38-17) at 3:30 p.m. CT in Lafayette, La. Overall 14-seed Louisiana-Lafayette (49-4) will host Mississippi Valley State (34-17) at 6:00 p.m.
"I am so thrilled that this team gets the opportunity to play in the postseason," head coach Glenn Moore said. "This is a tough regional, but at this point in the season every team is good. We just need to be playing our best ball starting Friday."
The 23rd ranked Lady Bears, who earned an at-large bid to the championship, enter the regional after finishing sixth in the Big 12 Conference. Stanford, seeded second in the regional, finished sixth in the Pac 12 standings and was ranked No. 15 in the latest poll.
Louisiana-Lafayette, which earned an at-large bid, will be the one seed after winning the Sun Belt Conference regular season title. Mississippi Valley State enters the regional as the fourth seed after capturing the SWAC regular season and conference titles.
The Lafayette regional is paired with the Arizona State regional as the winners of the two regionals will square off in a best-of-three series to determine who advances to the NCAA Women's College World Series. The Tempe, Ariz., regional consists of the Sun Devils, the No. 3 overall seed, as well as LIU Brooklyn, Long Beach State and Syracuse.
The selection for the Lady Bears marks the seventh time in the last nine years the team has been picked for the NCAA Softball Championship.
