Sept. 26, 2012
WACO - Head coach Glenn Moore and the Baylor softball program announced its 2013 schedule, Wednesday. The 54-game slate features 27 home games, including 21 against 12 teams that were selected to the 2012 NCAA Championship and five contests against 2012 Women's College World Series programs.
"With the departure of two high RPI teams in our conference, it is important that we have a strong non-conference schedule," Moore said. "The 2013 season will have several non-conference games against top ranked teams from 2012 and we look forward to another exciting season at Getterman Stadium."
For the third-consecutive season, the Lady Bears will open the season at home as they host the Getterman Classic on Feb. 7-10. The field includes Illinois State, Sam Houston State and Northern Illinois.
The 12-game opening homestand continues with a doubleheader against Purdue (Feb. 12), and wraps up with the Miken Classic featuring Northern Colorado, Pacific and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (Feb. 15-17). Baylor then hits the road for the second annual Texas Shootout (Feb. 21-24) in San Marcos, featuring all Texas teams. The tournament field includes Texas State, Texas Tech, Sam Houston State, UT Arlington and North Texas.
The Lady Bears remain on the road for the Wilson DeMarini Invitational (March 2-4) hosted by WCWS participant Arizona State in Tempe, Ariz., facing the Sun Devils, North Carolina, North Dakota State, Binghamton and East Carolina. Following a three-game home series with Purdue (March 9-10), BU will head to Hawaii (March 13-17) for the first time since 2007, taking on a field of Hawaii, WCWS participant California, Utah and Syracuse.
The rest of the non-conference schedule will feature a home doubleheader against Houston (April 23) and road games against UT-Arlington (March 20), Texas State (April 9), Stephen F. Austin (April 10) and North Texas (April 17).
Baylor opens Big 12 play at home versus Texas on March 23 and heads to Austin on March 24. The rest of the home conference schedule includes Iowa State (March 29-20), Oklahoma State (April 12-14) and Texas Tech (May 3-5).
The Lady Bears' Big 12 road contests include Texas again on May 12, Oklahoma (April 5-7) and Kansas (April 26-28).
