Baylor softball coach Glenn Moore announced the program's 2011 schedule, Wednesday. The 54-game slate features 27 home games, 24 games against 14 teams that were selected to the 2010 NCAA Championship and six contests against 2010 Women's College World Series programs.
"This schedule will give us the opportunity to play against some of top teams in the nation prior to beginning Big 12 play," Moore said. "I feel if this team is healthy and hitting on all cylinders, we can compete at that level."
For the first time since 2008, Baylor will open the season at home as it hosts the Getterman Classic on Feb. 11-13. The field includes NCAA Championship representatives, Illinois and McNeese State in addition to UTSA.
The Lady Bears will remain home for a three-game series with New Mexico (Feb 18-19) before hitting the road to Louisiana to face Northwestern State and Louisiana Tech.
Baylor will return home for the QTI Invitational (Feb. 25-27) with Houston, Central Arkansas, Louisiana Monroe and Sam Houston State.
Following a home doubleheader against Prairie View A&M, the Lady Bears will head west to San Diego for the Campbell/Cartier Classic from March 4-7. Baylor's schedule consists of four contests against NCAA teams, including the defending national champions, UCLA. BU will remain west and play a three-game series in Tucson against NCAA runner-up, Arizona (March 11-13).
The Lady Bears return to Getterman Stadium for a game against UTA (March 15) before traveling to North Texas for a doubleheader on March 16. Following a week off, Baylor will face Florida International for a doubleheader on March 24 before opening conference play.
Baylor will welcome conference foes Texas A&M (March 26), Missouri (April 2-3), Oklahoma State (April 22-23), Texas (April 27) and Nebraska (May 7-8) to Getterman Stadium.
The Lady Bears' Big 12 road contests include Texas A&M (March 27), Texas Tech (April 6), Oklahoma (April 9-10), Kansas (April 16-17), Iowa State (April 30-May 1) and Texas (May 15).
The Lady Bears return 13 players and welcome four newcomers to the 2011 squad.
