The 2011 National Semifinalist Baylor softball program announced its 2012 schedule, Thursday. The 55-game slate features 36 home games, including 28 games against 14 teams that were selected to the 2011 NCAA Championship and nine contests against 2011 Women’s College World Series programs.
"We have another challenging schedule ahead of us this season,” head coach Glenn Moore said. "I am excited to have so many games at home in front of our fans and at the finest facility in the country, Getterman Stadium."
For the second consecutive season, the Lady Bears will open the season at home as it hosts the Getterman/QTI Classic on Feb. 10-12. The field includes Wichita State, Iowa, Arkansas, Belmont and UT Arlington.
Following a three-game series at Texas A&M Corpus Christi (Feb. 17-18), Baylor welcomes Northwestern State for a doubleheader (Feb. 22) before hosting the first annual Texas Shootout (Feb. 24-26), featuring all Texas teams. The tournament field includes Texas State, Texas Tech, Stephen F. Austin, UTEP and North Texas.
The Lady Bears then hit the road for the Citrus Classic (March 2-4) at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Fla., where they will face NCAA tournament squads UCLA, Auburn, Illinois State and Syracuse in addition to North Carolina.
A home doubleheader against Louisiana Tech (March 6) kicks off a 15-game homestand that features a three-game series against Arizona (March 9-11) and a pair of two-game spring break tournaments before opening Big 12 play with Oklahoma (March 23-25).
Baylor will also welcome conference foes Kansas (April 6-7), Texas A&M (April 10), Texas (April 18, May 1), and Iowa State (May 4-6) to Getterman Stadium.
The Lady Bears’ Big 12 road contests include Texas A&M (March 28, April 24), Missouri (March 30-April 1), Texas Tech (April 20-22), Oklahoma State (April 27-29) and Texas (May 1).
The Lady Bears return 11 players from the 2011 WCWS team and welcome eight newcomers to the 2012 squad.
