Getting To Know You... Taylor Marcum

1. Tell us about your recruitment to Baylor and what made you decide to be a Lady Bear? TM: "I came to camp, hit some home runs and performed pretty well. Then about a month and a half after camp, I committed. I chose Baylor because I knew I could get a great education and it was close to home. This is a place with good tradition and the coaches made it very comfortable; it's like a family here. When I came, I knew this where I wanted to be." 2. Since you grew up just outside of Oklahoma City, did you make many trips to watch the Women's College World Series? TM: "I started going when I was about nine and I went to at least one game every year after that. Last season (when Baylor advanced to the WCWS), I went to every game. It made me want to get on the field as a Lady Bear much sooner. It would be a dream to go back and play in front of my family and friends." 3. Your major is exercise physiology; when did you decide you wanted to be a physical therapist and why? TM: "I decided I wanted to be a physical therapist after I had surgery on my knee when I was a freshman in high school. I spent a lot of time in PT and I thought it would be a great way to keep me around both sports and medicine." 4. It can be overwhelming just being a freshman in college, not to mention being a freshman athlete; what have been some of the biggest adjustments you have had to make and get used to? TM: "The biggest adjustment is having to organize my time better. I am not a very organized person, so I have had to learn to keep a planner. Besides Coach Moore, I don't have anyone to tell me what to do, so that has been a big adjustment." 5. Since many Baylor fans haven't had the opportunity to see you play yet, can you give us a brief overview of what we can expect to see when you are on the field this spring?
TM: "I like to keep the people around me into the game. If someone around me makes an error, I like to pick them up because one person isn't going to effect the outcome of the game, it's a team effort. I like to look at the positive side of things and give it 110 percent. Oh, and I would also like to hit some home runs."
