WACO, Texas - The Baylor women's team, ranked No. 43, lost their season opening match today when they dropped a road match to eighth-ranked Vanderbilt, 6-1. The Bears are now 0-1 while Vanderbilt moves to 2-0.
Sophomore Barbora Blahutiakova posted the Bears' lone victory with a win at No. 6 singles. Newcomer Anna Moncolova and freshman Stephanie Balzert each won their first sets but lost the next two and fell to defeat.
First year Baylor head coach Joey Scrivano and his team will hit the road again at the beginning of February when they travel to Milwaukee, Wisc., to take on No. 40 Ohio State and Marquette. The Ohio State match is on Feb. 1 at 10 am (CST) and will face Marquette on Feb. 2, also at 10 am (CST).
