The 19th ranked Baylor women's tennis team shutout Syracuse, 5-0, and Prairie View A&M, 7-0, on Sunday at the Hurd Tennis Center and Hawkins Indoor Tennis Center.

The first match against Syracuse started off with the Lady Bears taking the doubles point as the 37th-ranked duo of Victoria Kisialeva and Blair Shankle took down Maddie Kobelt and Valeria Salazar, 6-4, on court 1. Needing one more win to claim the point, Jordaan Sanford and Alex Clay defeated Amanda Rodgers and Breanna Bachini, 6-1, at the No. 2 spot.

In singles action, Shankle placed another point on the board with a straight-set win, 6-1, 6-1, over Breanna Bachini at the No. 5 position. The Lady Bears picked up three more wins from Kisialeva, 6-1, 6-2, Sanford, 6-2, 6-2, and Alex Leatu, 2-6, 6-0, 1-0 (10-8) to claim the match. Kiah Generette and Clay's matches were suspended at that point.

Kicking off the match against Prairie View A&M, Sanford and Makenzie Craft defeated Erika Bond and Payton Gore, 6-1, at the No. 2 spot. Securing the doubles point, Kisialeva and Shankle beat Christine Ngo Gwodog and Sydney Thomas, 6-0, at the No. 1 spot.

The Lady Bears swept all six singles matches with straight-set wins. Finishing first at the No. 4 position, Craft played a perfect match against Donielle Richard, 6-0, 6-0. Following Craft, Shankle and Robinson finished strong with a perfect match as well at the No. 2 and 5 position, respectively.

Ranked No. 38 in the country, Generette took down Taylor LeFridge, 6-1, 6-1. Leatu defeated Sydney Thomas, 6-1, 6-0. To wrap up the match Abbey Stainback beat Maria Lackey, 6-1, 4-6, 1-0 (10-5).


  • Shankle won her sixth consecutive match in singles for the season.
  • This is the second time the Lady Bears have gone 5-0 to start the season under head coach Joey Scrivano.

Baylor outscored its opponents 12-0, on Sunday.

The Lady Bears will be back in action at home on Saturday against Penn State at 7 p.m. at the Hurd Tennis Center.
