WACO, Texas- Baylor's singles lineup showed its strength sweeping the top five positions on the way to a 6-1 win in ITA Indoor qualifying on Saturday at the Hurd Tennis Center.

No. 5 Baylor (7-0), one of 16 host sites of the first two rounds of the ITA National Team Indoor Championship, moved one step closer to the final 16 of the tournament that convenes in Charlottesville, Va., in two weeks. Also hosted at Baylor as part of the tournament, No. 73 Wyoming defeated No. 75 UT-Arlington 6-1. The Cowgirls will now face the Lady Bears for the qualifying berth.

For Baylor, the top four singles spots lost just a total of 10 games, and the bottom two doubles spots took care of their matches to give the Lady Bears the convincing win.

"We are getting better, slowly but surely," head coach Joey Scrivano said. "The seniors understood the dynamics of the match, and really did things the right way today. I am really proud of the way the competed. Our team really focused, even with the weather, and we couldn't be happier about the results."

At the top of the lineup, senior Sona Novakova was the first player to finish, dropping just one game en route to a 6-1, 6-0 win over Courtney Griffith for her seventh straight win. Fellow senior Nina Secerbegovic matched the feat with her seventh in a row over Alexis Rodriguez 6-1, 6-2. The third senior, No. 14 Diana Nakic, lost only two games in a 6-1, 6-1 win over UCF's Jenna Doerfler.

Sophomore Jordaan Sanford and freshman Megan Horter each continued their steady improvement. Sanford dispatched of UCF's Taylor Dubins 6-2, 6-2, while Horter came from behind in the first set to win 6-4 and added a 6-3 second for the win.

In doubles, Sanford and Abby Stainback controlled play from the outset on the way to an 8-3 win, while Nakic and Novakova stayed steady early and pulled away late for an 8-4 victory.

Baylor will be back on the Hurd Tennis Center courts on Sunday against Wyoming at 11 a.m. The Lady Bears will look to keep their season mark perfect and continue to build on the third-best start to a season in program history.
