WACO, Texas - Baylor's 19th-ranked women's tennis team claimed a 6-1 victory over No. 22 Rice on Saturday at the Hurd Tennis Center.
In doubles play, the Lady Bears earned the point as the country's 37th-ranked doubles team of Victoria Kisialeva and Blair Shankle defeated Natalie Beazant and Liat Zimmermann, 6-3. Meanwhile, the pairing of Ema Burgic and Alex Clay snagged the second victory over Solomiya Zinko and Alison Ho, 6-2.
In singles action, the Lady Bears won five of the six matches played. Jordaan Sanford took control of the first point as she beat out Kimberly Anicete, 6-0, 6-2, on court 4. Following the win, Alex Leatu defeated Zinko, 6-3, 6-2 on court 6. Shankle snagged a win over Ho, 6-4, 6-4, and Kisialeva fought to clinch the match against Katherine Ip, 7-6(7-5), 0-6, 10-1.
Rice earned its only point after Burgic retired from her match against Beazant. To end the contest, the 38th-ranked Kiah Generette defeated Dominique Harmath, 7-6 (7-4), 6-2.
The Lady Bears now hold a 7-1 record and Rice leads the all-time series 12-7.

- Burgic and Clay won their first doubles match of the season
- Burgic played her first match of the season, after missing much the fall season with an injury.

The Lady Bears will be back in action on Feb. 15 at 1 p.m. when they will face Vanderbilt at the Hawkins Indoor Tennis Center.
