MADISON, Wis. - Nina Sercerbegovic rallied from a one-set deficit to clinch the win as the fourth-ranked Baylor women's tennis team defeated No. 11 North Carolina on Friday morning at the ITA National Indoor Championships at the A.C. Nielsen Tennis Stadium.

Sercerbegovic, a mid-term freshman playing just the third dual match of her career, moved her dual-match record to 3-0 on the season with a come-from-behind victory over Laura Reichert on court six. After falling 6-3 in the first set, Sercerbegovic finished 7-5, 6-1 to give Baylor the win and advance the Lady Bears to the quarterfinals of the tournament for the second time in six appearances.

"I'm proud of the way some of our players competed today," said head coach Joey Scrivano. "Thankfully we played mentally tough enough at certain positions to get the team a win. However we need a total team effort day in and day out if we plan our doing anything this season. We have to bring a higher level of intensity and focus to the court tomorrow vs. Notre Dame."

North Carolina was able to win the doubles point to take an early 1-0 lead. Third-ranked Lenka Broosova and Csilla Borsanyi fell to No. 15 Sanaz Marand and Sophie Grabinski, 8-5. Baylor won on court three as Secerbegovic and Kasia Siwosz defeated Reichert and Meg Fanjoy, 8-5. On court two, No. 12 Katrina Tsang and Shinann Featherston defeated Taylor Ormond and Jelena Stanivuk in a tiebreaker, 9-8 (5).

Baylor evened the match at 1-1 with a win from Broosova on court three. The junior extended her dual-match winning streak to 22 straight wins, topping No. 103 Austin Smith, 6-2, 6-1. North Carolina went back on top with a win on court one as No. 47 Marand defeated No. 19 Ormond, 6-4, 6-3.

The Lady Bears evened the match again, as Karolina Filipiak rallied for a three-set victory on court five, downing No. 83 Featherston, 2-6, 7-6, 6-4. No. 32 Borsanyi defeated Tsang, 7-5, 6-3, on court two to give Baylor the lead, but Grabinski downed No. 65 Stanivuk, 6-4, 6-4, on court three to level the match. The loss ends Stanivuk's 14-match winning streak in dual matches.

Baylor advances to the second round of the ITA National Indoor Championships on Saturday afternoon. The Lady Bears will face No. 14 Notre Dame at 3:30 p.m. at the A.C. Nielsen Tennis Stadium.
