THE RUNDOWN
WACO, Texas -
The 18th-ranked women's tennis team upset No. 7 Northwestern, 5-2, on a windy Sunday at the Hurd Tennis Center.

In doubles action, Baylor fell down early as Kiah Generette and Makenzie Craft dropped an 8-3 decision on court 3. BU looked on its way to a loss in doubles, trailing by as much as 6-3 on court 1 and 6-2 on court 2. However, Victoria Kisialeva and Blair Shankle made a furious comeback to upset 25th-ranked Veronica Corning and Alicia Barnett on court 1, 8-7(6).

When that match wrapped, the contest on court 2 was tied at six games apiece, after Alex Leatu and Jordaan Sanford had just won three straight games to tie it up. The BU duo kept the momentum rolling, winning the next two games to take the match, 8-6, giving the Lady Bears the doubles point.

In singles play, the 59th-ranked Generette made quick work of No. 30 Corning, 7-5, 6-2 on court one and Shankle dispatched of 109th-ranked Lok Sze Leung, 6-0, 7-5, on court 5. Those wins put BU up 3-0 and only one point away from clinching the match.

TOP QUOTE #1
"We played great all weekend. Yesterday was a tough loss, but I felt like we did a lot of good things. Today, we stuck with it and it worked out. We try not to get too excited about the wins and too down about the losses. We just have to keep getting better. If we focus on the process good things will happen. I like the direction we are heading." - Head coach Joey Scrivano

TOP QUOTE #2
"Every point is big when you are playing against a top-10 team. I thought the team bought into the concept that we were preaching today." - Head coach Joey Scrivano

WHAT'S NEXT
Baylor will play its first match on the road since Jan. 11 when the Lady Bears head to College Station, Texas, to face No. 11 Texas A&M on Thursday at 4 p.m.
