WACO, Texas – Senior Lenka Broosova and sophomore Nina Secerbegovic continued their winning ways to lead No. 5 Baylor to a 6-1 win against No. 35 Pepperdine at the Baylor Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon.

Baylor took the doubles point to start the day one-up on the Waves, then powered out five of the six singles matches for the easy victory. Broosova, who moved up to No. 9 in this week’s ITA singles rankings, continued her undefeated dual-match season with her fifth win in straight sets over Arianna Colffer 6-2, 6-4. Teammate Nina Secerbegovic, ranked 25th, moved up to the Lady Bears’ No. 2 singles position and kept her season undefeated at 7-0 with a straight-sets win over No. 98 Ali Walters 7-5, 6-4.

“Overall we played very well today,” head coach Joey Scrivano said. “There is a lot to improve, our team knows that. We are not playing at our best. One and two today, with Lenka and Nina, have been the backbone of our team. They are not always going to win real easily. Every team has a great one and two player, so for them to scrap out straight-set wins, I am really happy with that.”

The Lady Bears also got dominating performances from Taylor Ormond, Karolina Filipiak and Carla Lindlar, all winning in straight sets. Ormond, ranked No. 91, dropped just two games in her 6-0, 6-2 win, while Karolina Filipiak dropped just three games in her 6-3, 6-0 win. In the No. 6 singles position, freshman Carla Lindlar got back on the winning track with a 6-3, 6-2.

“Taylor has become a different person since the North Carolina match,” Scrivano said. “It is like a metamorphosis. Karolina is getting better and better. Each time she steps on the court she is getting stronger and stronger. I thought Carla, who didn’t play at her best against USC, bounced back with a good win and played some solid tennis.”

In doubles action, the No. 12 duo of Broosova and Borsanyi rolled, not dropping a single game in an 8-0 drubbing of Anamika Bhargava and Maria Zalameda. The combo of Secerbegovic and Filipiak then earned the doubles point for BU with an 8-4 win over Tania Rice and Colffer.

The Lady Bears travel to Ann Arbor, Mich., next for a match with the No. 7 Wolverines. The match is slated to start at 6 p.m. ET/5 p.m. CT.
