WACO, Texas - The fourth-ranked Baylor women's tennis team won its sixth-straight Big 12 Conference match, 7-0, over Kansas State on a blustery day at the Baylor Tennis Center.
Baylor improves to 15-4 overall, 6-0 in conference action. The Lady Bears have only dropped two points in conference play, and have outscored their Big 12 opponents, 40-2 this season.
"I like the way we bounced back from our last match with better focus and intensity," said head coach Joey Scrivano. "We got back to doing the ordinary things well and it showed in our performance."
Baylor started out the match with a sweep of all three doubles matches. At No. 3 doubles, Lenka Broosova and Karolina Filipiak downed Petra Chuda and Katerina Kudlackova, 8-4. No. 59 Taylor Ormond and Jelena Stanivuk dropped the first three games on court one, but rallied with eight straight wins to defeat Nina Sertic and Antea Huljev, 8-3, to secure the doubles point. Nina Secerbegovic and Kasia Siwosz downed Mariya Slupska and Natasha Vieira, 8-5, on court two.
In singles action, Baylor won five matches in straight sets. Secerbegovic downed Kudlackova, 6-0, 6-2, on court four. No. 37 Stanivuk rolled over Slupska, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 3 singles before No. 43 Broosova defeated Sertic, 6-2, 6-2, on court two to move the Baylor lead to 4-0.
No. 44 Ormond downed Huljev, 6-3, 6-3, on court one just before Siwosz defeated Chuda, 6-2, 6-2, on court five. At No. 6 singles, Filipiak defeated Vieira in a third-set super tiebreaker, 6-4, 1-6, 10-8.
"We have a big test coming up with UT on Saturday," said Scrivano. "They are undefeated in the Big 12 and having a nice winning streak going. We'll have to be ready to play on Saturday. I'm hoping that the Baylor community will make every effort to come support our team in the final home match of the season."
Baylor returns to action on Saturday as the Lady Bears play host to No. 32 Texas at 12 noon at the Baylor Tennis Center.
