WACO, Texas - No. 12 Baylor won its seventh match in a row, cruising to a 6-1 win over 18th-ranked Notre Dame on Saturday afternoon at the Hurd Tennis Center.

Baylor (19-5) got off to a hot start with a sweep in the three doubles matches, then overcame a lineup change and a forfeited match due to injury to claim five of six singles matches to defeat the Fighting Irish (14-7).

Baylor's top-ranked player, No. 13 Diana Nakic, was unable to come back out after singles, and Jordaan Sanford was trailing in the second set on Court 5 when she was forced to retire with an injury. But, the Lady Bears moved each player up one spot in the lineup and added freshman Nicole Kosakowski in on Court 6.

"I think, more than anything, for us it's just a matter of focusing and taking care of our own game," head coach Joey Scrivano said. "We didn't beat ourselves today, and when you do that, you have a chance to win. Our freshmen are maturing and it showed today. With them growing up, they are gaining confidence. It's perfect timing, we are starting to peak at the right time. Today, Nicole (Kosakowski) was just so focused and so determined. With her and Megan (Horter), they are focusing on the present and not letting past matches affect them, and that's a great sign."

In doubles, Baylor's 22nd-ranked duo of Nina Secerbegovic and Ema Burgic earned another top-five win with an 8-5 victory over No. 5 Kristy Frilling and Shannon Mathews. The senior duo of Sona Novakova and Diana Nakic added a ranked victory on Court 2 to clinch the point with an 8-5 win over No. 67 Julie Sabacinski and Britney Sanders. Baylor's tandem of Jordaan Sanford and Nicole Kosakowski then held off Jennifer Kellner and Chrissie McGaffigan in a tiebreak 8-7(2) to finish the doubles sweep.

In singles with Kosakowski in the lineup on Court 6, Baylor's trio of freshman, including Horter and Burgic, came through with a perfect 3-0 record on the day. Kosakowski claimed her first dual-match singles win with a 6-4, 6-2 defeat of Katherine White to give Baylor a 2-1 lead. Fellow freshman Horter then added her third win in a row shortly after with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over McGaffigan.

With a 3-1 lead in hand, Baylor needed just one of the three remaining courts and was holding the lead on each. Novakova, who had fallen behind after a 2-6 first set, finished her comeback with a 6-2, 6-3 finish to claim the clinching point.

Burgic then added her victory, a 6-2, 0-6, 6-4 seesaw battle on Court 3 over Sanders, and Secerbegovic held off a hard-charging Mathews on Court 1 for the final point. Secerbegovic won the first set 6-3, but up 5-2 in the second, gave up four straight games before forcing a tiebreak at 6-6. The Baylor senior then faced a 5-1 deficit in the tiebreak, but pulled out a 9-7 win to finish the match.

Baylor will have a seven-day break before hitting the courts again at No. 10 Texas in Austin on April 14. The match is slated to begin at noon at the Penick-Allison Tennis Center.
