WACO, Texas - Baylor's 12th-seeded women's tennis team took care of business in a dominating effort against Oral Roberts, winning 4-0 in the First Round of the NCAA Team Championship on Saturday at the Hurd Tennis Center.

Serving as a host institution of the First and Second Rounds of the NCAA tournament, Baylor (24-7) lost just a total of nine games across three doubles and six singles matches against the Golden Eagles (13-6). The Lady Bears earned 8-1 wins on Courts 1 and 3 in doubles, then took victories in singles on Courts 3-5. The 4-0 shutout gives BU its eighth consecutive first-round blanking, and advances it to face No. 25 Tulsa, who defeated No. 47 Stephen F. Austin 4-0 in the other first-round match in Waco.

"We've had some really hard practices this week so having an easy match, getting off the court a little quicker is fine with me," head coach Joey Scrivano said. "I loved our energy and our attitude today, that's something that is going to be really important for us moving forward. It's such a long season and such a grind, it's easy to be sick of playing tennis. But, I think our minds are where they need to be right now, we're just really focused."

In doubles, Baylor's lineup featured senior-freshman duos on each court. The pair of senior Sona Novakova and freshman Nicole Kosakowski teamed up for the third-consecutive match, and came out firing on the way to an 8-1 win over ORU's Marizanne Bouwer and Tori Dollar on Court 3. On Court 1, the 78th-ranked pair of senior Nina Secerbegovic and freshman Megan Horter matched their teammates with their own 8-1 win over Haley Martin and Lina Semenova. The remaining Baylor duo of senior Diana Nakic and freshman Ema Burgic held a 6-1 lead on Court 2, but went unfinished when the point was clinched.

Singles action continued with the same theme of Baylor seizing the momentum early. The Lady Bears combined to win all six first sets, and after clinching three points, still led in the second set of the three remaining unfinished matches.

No. 56 Novakova claimed the first win for Baylor in singles action, taking down Martin, 6-1, 6-1, to snap a three-match winless skid. Sophomore Jordaan Sanford lost just one game on the way to a 6-1, 6-0 win for the third BU point, and Burgic finished off the match with a 6-0, 6-0 victory on Court 4.

With a match against 25th-ranked Tulsa on Sunday, Baylor will be looking to add to a string of seven consecutive Round of 16 appearances and keep alive a chance to make its sixth consecutive Elite Eight appearance. The NCAA Round of 16 will take place in Athens, Ga., this season.

Baylor and Tulsa are scheduled to hit the first serve of doubles action at 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Hurd Tennis Center in Waco.
