WT Falls in NCAA Singles

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - All three Baylor women's tennis players competing in the 2009 NCAA Singles Championships lost their first-round matches on Wednesday at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center.

Lenka Broosova and Csilla Borsanyi, ranked the No. 13 doubles team in the nation, will be in action on Thursday against Clemson's Ani Mijacika and Keri Wong, seeded in the 5-8 range.

No. 32 Broosova won the first set of her match against seventh-seeded Hilary Barte of Stanford, but could not hold the lead, falling 4-6, 6-2, 6-1. Broosova finishes the 2008-09 season with a 31-7 overall record, including a 26-3 mark in dual matches. Broosova has now recorded 120 career singles victories, the third-most in program history.

No. 39 Taylor Ormond fell to No. 31 Bianca Eichkorn of Miami, 6-1, 6-1, in the first round, while No. 44 Jelena Stanivuk was defeated by No. 36 Kristi Boxx of Mississippi, 6-3, 6-3.

Ormond concludes the season with a 27-23 overall record, including 13-15 in dual-match play.

Stanivuk ends the season after recording a team high 34 singles wins against just seven losses. She tallied a 25-2 record in dual matches. Her 34 singles wins ranks as the seventh-best single-season total in Baylor history. Her 2008-09 winning percentage of .829 also ranks seventh in program history.
