ATHENS, Ga. - Despite having not played with each other in over two months, the Baylor women's tennis duo of Victoria Kisialeva and Blair Shankle won its opening match in the NCAA Doubles Championship at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex on Thursday.
The 35th-ranked BU pairing pulled off a major upset over ninth-ranked Catherine Harrison and Kyle McPhillips of UCLA. Kisialeva and Shankle made it look easy, securing a 6-3, 6-3 straight set victory to advance into the round of 16.
The victory pushes the Lady Bear tandem's record to 20-5 on the season and 4-4 against ranked foes. Kisialeva and Shankle were a main staple in Baylor's early season doubles' lineup, but had not played together since March 19 and had not won together since March 15.
