Baylor freshman Vida Mulec won her championship
match to
take the flight one championships, and freshman
doubles team of Mulec and Monica
Gonzalez won the finals in the second flight at the
TCU Invitational.
Mulec defeated UT at Arlington's Maria Stepnova in
straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, to
take the championship.
In the first round consolations, BU's Karin
Andersson defeated Joanne Keene
from McNeese State in a 5-7, 7-5, 6-0 match. In
flight two consolations Claudia
Aguilar defeated OU's Kristen Gullford, 6-1, 6-3,
and Paola Stephen defeated
McNeese State's Yvonne Bresler, 6-3, 6-1.
Monica Gonzalez beat Texas Women's Shelia Paguyo in
the third flightis
consolations, 7-5, 6-1, for Baylor.
In doubles play Stephen and Aguilar were defeated
in the first round of flight
one by TCU's Dvorakova and Zoldakova, 8-1. Aguilar
and Stephen won in the
second round consolations defeating McNeese Stateis
Keene and Stone by default.
Anderson and Borjesson won their flight one, round
one matchup against Keene and
Stons from McNeese State, 8-3. In round two
Anderson and Borjesson defeated
TCU's Huppes and Bell, 9-7. They were defeated in
the finals by TCU's Dvorakova
and Zoldakova, 8-3.
Mulec and Gonzalez defeated UTA's Huijgen and
Gilliam in the first round of the
second flight, 9-7, and went on to defeat OU's
Storup and Hamilton 8-5. Mulec
and Gonzalez defeated TCU's Sabala and Shackelford
in the second flight finals,
8-3.
