Bears Dominate Baylor Tennis Classic
Baylor women win every match on the first day.

WACO, Texas - The Baylor Women's Tennis team dominated the Baylor Tennis Classic winning every match they participated in on the first day of the tournament.

Baylor's 69 ranked Katja Kovac will play Vida Mulec, Baylor freshman, in the Flight "A" singles championship at 11:30 a.m. tomorrow. Mulec defeated Lamar's Barbara Schraml in strait sets, 6-0, 6-2, and Ann Rosslund from Tyler Junior College (T.J.C.) in the second round 6-2, 6-2. Kovac had a, 6-2, 6-2, win over Majorie Terburgh from T.J.C., and beat U.T.S.A.'s Julie Colin, 6-2, 6-3.

In flight "B" singles Claudia Aguilar has advanced to the semifinals to play against Texas Tech's Sonnia Orellana at 9 a.m. Saturday. Aguilar defeated Maribeth Rivera, U.S.L., 6-2, 6-1, and defeated Eva Soderkvist from U.T.S.A., 6-0, 6-2. Also in Flight "B", Karin Andersson will compete in the semifinals against Texas Tech's Michelle Colaninni. Andersson defeated U.T.S.A.'s Phyllis Wilunda, 6-1, 6-2, and Beverly Dawson, T.J.C., 6- 1, 6-1, on her way to the semifinals.

At flight "C" singles Paola Stephen and Monica Gonzalez have advanced to the semifinal round. Stephen is set to play Noel Ruiz after defeating Amanda Cowieson, 6-0, 6-1, and Christina Reimers, 6-2, 7-5. Gonzalez defeated Tech's Leslie Holton, 6-1, 6-1, and Sarah Iqbal, N.E.L., 6-1, 6-1. She plays Irena Novotna from U.S.L. on Saturday at 9 a.m..

In doubles play Andersson and Parekh take on T.J.C.'s Tayntor and Dawson, Saturday at 1 p.m., in the flight "A" doubles after a 8-1 win over Hubert and Novotna from U.S.L. today. Mulec and Stephen defeated Lamar's Schraml and Finkowska, 8- 3, to get to the semifinal round where they play T.J.C.'s Rosslund and Terburgh.

In flight "B" doubles Aguilar and Gonzalez defeated U.S.L's Rivera and Cowieson, 8-3, to move into the semifinal round where they face L Kloner and Iqbal from N.E.L..

Tournament play picks up at 9 a.m. again tomorrow.
