MIDLAND, Texas - The Baylor women's tennis doubles duo of Victoria Kisialeva and Blair Shankle highlighted the second day of action for the Lady Bears at The Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational on Saturday.
As a pairing, Kisialeva and Shankle won both of their matches on the day to reach the semifinals of the event. The BU duo first knocked off Isaura Enrique and Samantha Vickers of Tulsa, 8-7(3), and then cruised past Sarah Toti and Nikki Sanders of Texas Tech, 8-3.
Shankle also had a successful day in singles winning two matches in consolation play. The freshman downed Claire Williams of Texas Tech, 6-2, 6-0, before dispatching of Abilene Christian's Micah Hermsdorf, 6-3, 6-3.
Both Kiah Generette and Makenzie Craft lost round of 16 singles matches to open the day.
Paired together for the first time, Shankle and Kisialeva have won all three of their collegiate matches together.
After losing her first collegiate singles match, Shankle has won three in a row at the event. All three of her wins have come in straight sets.
Craft rebounded from her loss in the round of 16 to post a consolation victory over Claire Williams of TTU, 6-1, 6-3.
"Overall, we got better today. Our opponents were a little better than us, but we will build on this. Blair did an excellent job competing today. She has been very coachable and we make small changes in her game that will make a big difference. Then in doubles, Blair and Vic have been very precise and have stayed away from sloppy tennis." - Baylor associate head Alison Ojeda
Baylor's Shankle will face Devan McCluskey of Penn State at 9 a.m. in the fourth round of singles consolation play. In doubles, Shankle will partner with Kisialeva to play in the semifinals of the event vs. Natalie Beazant and Dominique Harmath of Rice.
