Women's Tennis' Mulec Opens Season with Wins at ITA Clay Courts

BALTIMORE - The first of three Baylor women's tennis players, Vida Mulec, opened the Bears' fall season with two wins Wednesday at the T. Rowe Price National Intercollegiate Clay Court Championships in Baltimore.

After a first round bye, Mulec defeated No. 2 seed Amelie Detriviere of Mississippi State, 8-4 in the second qualifying round of the tournament. Detriviere was ranked No. 66 in the nation in the ITA preseason polls.

Mulec then advanced to the third qualifying round Wednesday afternoon, where she beat Virginia Commonwealth's Raluca Ciulei, 8-4.

With the two wins, Mulec moves on to join teammates Jahnavi Parekh, ranked No. 13 in the nation in preseason polls, and No. 51-ranked Katja Kovac in the first round of the main draw Thursday. Pairings will be announced late Wednesday night at www.itatennis.com.
