WACO, Texas - Baylor's doubles tandem of Daria Potapova and Stephanie Balzert emerged victorious in the finals of the gold bracket in the HEB-Baylor Fall Invitational on Sunday. Due to rain in Waco, all matches were moved to the Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth.
Potapova, a junior, and Balzert, a sophomore, defeated Kentucky's Sarah Foster and Aibika Kalsarieva, 8-6 in the finals. In consolation semifinal action, Baylor sophomore Zuzana Krchnakova lost to Joelle Schwenk of Kentucky, 7-6, 6-4.
Potapova and Balzert enjoyed a successful tournament in singles as well. Potapova made it to the semifinals of the green bracket and Balzert lost in the quarterfinals of the gold bracket.
"The tournament was a great experience for our team, playing in a high caliber tournament at home," said Baylor head coach Joey Scrivano. "It was nice to see how much Daria and Stephanie have developed in both singles and doubles."
The Bears' next action will be October 3-5 when they play in Houston's Cougar Fall Classic.
