STILLWATER, Okla. – Baylor women’s tennis continued its successful run at the Stillwater Pro Tennis Classic with a pair of wins on Monday at the Greenwood Tennis Center.
Taking on Viktoriya Lushkova of Ukraine, Oklahoma State’s No. 1 singles player a season ago, freshman Kris Sorokolet came out on top, 6-2, 2-1. The match was retired midway through the second set. Sophomore Angelina Shakhraichuk battled to record a victory in two sets, 7-5, 6-3, against Tamara Kupkova of Slovakia.
The Lady Bears advance to the round of 16, which begins at 9 a.m. (CT) on Tuesday. Sorokolet will face Kerrie Cartwright of the Bahamas, who closed her collegian career at Florida State in 2015. Shakhraichuk is set to meet Gabriela Talaba of Romania, a senior at Texas Tech who became the first All-American in program Lady Raider history after posting a 22-5 record at No. 1 singles last year. Talaba was ranked No. 2 nationally in the Sept. 12 release of Oracle/ITA Division I preseason women’s tennis singles rankings.
