WESTWOOD, Calif. - After two victories to open the fall season, Baylor women’s tennis senior Jordaan Sanford was beaten in the third round of the ITA All-American Championships prequalifying singles draw on Sunday at the Los Angeles Tennis Center.
Needing one more win to earn a spot into the tournament’s qualifying draw, the 97th-ranked Sanford fell to Florida’s Belinda Woolcock, 6-2, 6-2.
“Jordaan played a very good player today,” assistant coach Marco Matteucci said. “She played a very good match, but the results don’t really show that. Overall, she stuck to the plan and played Baylor tennis. That is what we are happy about. We are looking forward to the progress that she is going to have in the future.”
Junior Ema Burgic, ranked No. 6, will open play in the singles main draw, while partnering with redshirt sophomore Victoria Kisialeva to compete in the 32-team doubles main draw on Thursday. Burgic and Kisialeva are ranked No. 5 in the ITA preseason rankings. Draws for both singles and doubles main brackets will be announced later this week.
