PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. - Baylor women’s tennis junior Ema Burgic was beaten in the second round of the Riviera/ITA All-American singles main draw on Friday at the Riviera Tennis Center.
After advancing to the round of 32, the sixth-ranked Burgic lost to No. 13 Kristie Ahn of Stanford, 6-4, 6-1. Burgic is now 1-1 on the season.
Competing in a doubles consolation match, No. 5 Burgic and teammate Victoria Kisialeva lost to the 18th-ranked duo Paige Miles and Tereza Bekerovo of Utah, 8-7(5).
“Ema competed hard today, but against an opponent like Ahn you have to do more than that. We will come and work on some things with Ema, because we know when she is at the top of her game she is one of the best in the country.” – head coach Joey Scrivano on Burgic
Baylor will have a couple weeks off, before competing in the USTA/ITA Texas Regional Championships. That event will be held in Fort Worth, Texas, Oct. 17-21.
