PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif.– Senior Diana Nakic continued her hot start to the season with a three-set win to advance through qualifying to the main draw of the ITA/Riviera Women’s All-American Championship on Wednesday in Pacific Palisades, Calif.
Nakic, who defeated back-to-back ranked opponents on Tuesday, came back out on Wednesday and fought through a win over 31st-ranked Brynn Boren of Tennessee. The 28th-ranked Nakic won the first set 7-5, then fell 6-1 in the second before recovering for a 6-3 third set to clinch the victory.
Nakic will take on USC’s 16th-ranked Danielle Lao in the first round of the 32-player main draw that begins on Thursday.
She will be joined by fellow seniors Nina Secerbegovic and Sona Novakova, who will enter in the main draw in both singles and doubles. Secerbegovic, ranked 23rd, will face No. 2 Allie Will of Florida, while 13th-ranked Novakova will take on third-ranked Kristy Frilling of Notre Dame.
The 10th-ranked combo of Novakova and Secerbegovic will then face Stanford’s No. 11 duo of Mallory Burdette and Nicole Gibbs in the first round of a 24-team doubles field.
