MIDLAND, Texas - None of the three women's tennis players that traveled to The Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational in Midland, Texas, are still in the hunt for an individual title, but all three stuck around after losing out of both the championship and consolation brackets to play some backdraw consolation matches on Saturday against other that had been ousted from the event.
Freshmen Karolina Filipiak and Taylor Ormond each earned singles wins on Saturday. Filipiak defeated UCLA's Stephanie Wetmore (6-4, 6-0) after Wetmore had sent Baylor sophomore Zuzana Chmelarova to the consolation bracket on Friday.
Ormond earned her win against Miami's (Fla.) Caren Seenauth (6-3, 6-2).
Chmelarova dropped her fourth consecutive match of the season, falling to 5-5 in fall tournament singles, after losing in three sets to Michela Kissell of Miami (Fla.), 4-6, 7-5, 3-6.
