WACO, Texas -
Baylor's Lenka Broosova won two matches on Saturday in Midland, Texas, to advance to the women's singles championship match of the Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational at the Midland Racquet Club. Sunday's title match will begin around 1 p.m.
Broosova, a freshman, downed New Mexico's Iva Gersic and Elizabeth Lumpkin of UCLA to advance to the title match where she will face Pepperdine's Sylvia Kosakowski.
"Lenka came through with a hard fought win today. Lumpkin really came on in the second and third sets and Lenka did a great job of finding a way to win. We are excited to have her in the finals, the match should be a great one," said women's head coach Joey Scrivano.
Freshman Jessica Zok's had a 4-1 lead in the third set of her quarterfinal match when rain temporarily halted play. Once play resumed, the tides turned and Pepperdine's Sylvia Kosakowski won the three-set match.
"Kosakowski just handled the rain delay better than Jessica and used it to her advantage," said Scrivano. "This match is one that Jessica will learn a lot from and become a better player for it."
Zok and Klara Zrustova, a senior, lost their quarterfinal doubles match Saturday evening.
At the end of each day's competition, Baylor results will be posted at www.baylorbears.com.
