MIDLAND, Texas - Lenka Broosova claimed the women's singles championship on Sunday in the Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational at the Midland Racquet Club.
Broosova, a freshman, overcame several obstacles to claim the three-set victory over Pepperdine's Sylvia Kosakowski. The match was originally scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. but was delayed due to rain. It eventually began at 2:15 and was also moved to the indoor courts. Broosova won the first set 6-3 then Kosakowski took the second set 6-2. The Baylor netter claimed the championship with a 6-3 third-set win.
"Lenka played well today and did a great job of handling the time change, moving indoors and a tough experienced opponent. It is really impressive for a freshman to win a tournament of this caliber ," said women's head coach Joey Scrivano.
