WACO, Texas– Baylor’s women’s tennis team completed action at the HEB Baylor Invitational, falling just shy in singles and doubles on Sunday at the Hurd Tennis Center.
“We had a day that I felt like we took a step back, and got away from what we have been working on in practice,” Scrivano said. “We don’t want to do that on the final day of a tournament. These tournaments give us a chance to apply what we have been doing in practice, and this was the first day of this event that we didn’t do that.”
The newcomer duo of freshman Nicole Kosakowski and sophomore transfer Jordaan Sanford earned a spot in the doubles final with a thrilling semifinal win, but weren’t able to claim the title. The Baylor pair, who has played only a handful of matches together, won their third-straight match on the weekend with a 9-8 victory over Oklahoma State’s Kanyapat Narattana and Malika Rose to advance through the semifinals. In the final, the TCU duo of Federica Denti and Kelsey Sundaram was up to the task, taking the match 8-2 over Kosakowski and Sanford.
In singles, senior Diana Nakic’s run came to an end in the semifinal round. Nakic took the first set 7-5 over Texas A&M’s Sun Wen, but Wen came back to take the next two sets 6-2, 7-5 for the victory and a spot in the final.
In consolation singles action, freshman Megan Horter fell in straight sets to Lamar’s Carolina Salas, 6-1, 6-2.
Next up for Baylor is the ITA Texas Regional in Fort Worth, Texas, on Oct. 21-25. Players will battle for qualifying spots in the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships just over a week later in Flushing Meadows, N.Y.
