WACO, Texas - After winning four of five first round singles matches at the ITA Southwest Regionals in Fort Worth at the Bayard Friedman Tennis Center on Friday, the Baylor women dropped three of four second round matches to leave junior Daria Potapova as the only singles player left in the main bracket.

In the first round of the tournament, Potapova, the tournament's No. 9 seed, posted a 6-4, 6-1 win over Bindiya Parekh of Arkansas-Little Rock to move on to the round of 64. Stephanie Balzert, Iva Mihaylova and Izabela Mijic advanced to the round of 64 as well. However, Potapova was the only player to win in the round of 64. She advanced with a 6-2, 7-6 victory over Rice's Annie Goodrich. Balzert retired from singles competition due to an injury.

Baylor's two doubles teams competing today had the opposite outcomes. Ninth seeded Daria Potapova and Stephanie Balzert advanced to the round of 64 by posting an 8-1 win over Vanessa Hedinger and Ana Pena of UT-Pan American. They will face Northwestern's State's Alexandra Nieto and Anneline Zerwick who defeated Maren Arnold and Liselott Hedenberg of the University of New Orleans, 8-6. Baylor's Iva Mihaylova and Izabela Mijic dropped their match to 8th seeded Ana Saaibi and Erika Valdes of Texas. The Baylor tandem will play Susan Linden and Kimberly Lyles of UL-Lafayette in the first round of the consolation bracket on Saturday morning.
