WT Pushes Three Into Quarterfinals Of Regional Championships

The Baylor women's tennis team placed three singles players and one doubles tandem into the quarterfinals of the USTA/ITA Regional Championships on Friday at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.

Baylor's Kiah Generette downed Jana McCord of Texas A&M 6-2, 6-2. She then upset 49th-ranked Dominique Harmath of Rice, 6-0, 6-4. Generette will face Anna Mamalat of TCU in the quarterfinals.

The 114th-ranked Victoria Kisialeva defeated Millie Nichols of TCU, 6-1, 6-2. She then beat Stefania Hristov of Texas A&M, 6-4, 6-1. Kisialeva will face Stefanie Tan of TCU in the quarterfinals.

Jordaan Sanford, ranked No. 97, beat Rebeca Calvillo of UTEP, 6-0, 6-0. She then went on to defeat Jessica Kahts of Texas State, 6-0, 6-1. Sanford will face Cristina Stancu of TAMU in the quarterfinals.

Baylor's three other competitors all fell in round of 32 action. Alex Leatu was beaten by 113th-ranked Nikki Sanders of Texas Tech, 6-3, 6-1. Makenzie Craft was defeated by 103th-ranked Simona Parajova of TCU, 6-2, 6-2. Blair Shankle fell to 10th-ranked Breaunna Addison of Texas, 6-2, 7-6(5).

In doubles action, the tandem of Generette and Sanford dropped its round of 32 match to the 8th-ranked duo of Stefania Hristov and Cristina Stancu of Texas A&M, 8-4.

Meanwhile, Baylor's other duo, Kisialeva and Shankle, will play in the quarterfinals after notching an 8-2 win against Texas's Lina Padegimaite and Annat Rabinovich.

Doubles action begins at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, while singles play is scheduled to start at 1:30 p.m.
