LUBBOCK, Texas - Sophomore Lenka Broosova has a busy day ahead of her as the nation's 54th ranked female tennis player will battle for the individual title at the ITA Southwest Regional on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. after fighting for a spot in the doubles championship match at 10:00 a.m. in Lubbock, Texas.
Second-seeded Broosova advanced to the championship match of the main draw with a quarterfinal win over Texas' Maggie Mello (6-0, 6-4) before eliminating No. 78 Nina Munch-Soegaard of Texas Christian. Broosova won her semi-final match in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3.
Broosova also advanced the in doubles bracket where her and partner Zuzana Zemenova defeated the duo of Christi Liles and Michelle Sammons of Texas A&M. The two will square off against Megan Falcon and Staten Spencer of Louisiana State in the semifinals.
The championship match is not all about Broosova for the Bears, as Baylor freshman Taylor Ormond advanced through the top half of the bracket to reach the title bout.
Ormond's match against Broosova will be her third consecutive contest against a teammate. In the quarterfinals, Ormond took Jana Bielikova to three sets (6-2, 6-7 , 6-3) before moving to the semifinals where she made quick work of fellow rookie Karolina Filipiak (6-2, 6-2).
Quarterfinal matches were played at McLeod Tennis Center before poor weather conditions forced the competition to move inside to the Lubbock Country Club.
Southwest Regional singles action continues on Tuesday in Lubbock and weather will determine match location.
