COLUMBUS, Ohio - In the final match of the 2007 ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships, sophomore Lenka Broosova and senior Zuzana Zemenova fell to the No. 9 team of Brook Buck and Kelcy Tafft of Notre Dame to earn second place in the doubles bracket at The Racquet Club of Columbus on Sunday.
The loss ended an eight-match winning streak for 51st-ranked Broosova and Zemenova, and dropped their fall record to 12-3.
Notre Dame's doubles team of Buck and Kelcy, the third highest ranked team in the tournament although unseeded, ran the table, earning straight-set victories, 6-3, 6-1, to earn the doubles title.
"We lost to a great doubles team today," said head coach Joey Scrivano. "The Notre Dame coaching staff deserves a lot of credit for developing such a strong team. It was impressive to watch them play."
Baylor ended its championship run after wins over No. 44 Amanda Fink and Gabriela Niculescu (USC), No. 11 Melanie Gloria and Tinesta Rowe (Fresno State) and unranked Romy Farah and Caren Seenuth of Miami (Fla.).
"We lost a tough one today but it is so exciting to know that are spring team season is around the corner," said Broosova. "Our team is coming together nicely and we're pumped to get started in January."
