WACO, Texas – A trio of Baylor women’s tennis players began $80,000 Waco Showdown action at Hurd Tennis Center on Sunday.
Despite battling throughout the first round of the singles qualifying draw, the Lady Bears fell. Sophomore Angelina Shakhraichuk fell to Taipei’s Chieh-Yu Hsu, 6-2, 6-1, freshman Livia Kraus lost to USA’s Ashley Kratzer, 6-0, 6-0, and sophomore Jessica Hinojosa dropped a match to Slovakia’s Michaela Honcova, 6-0, 6-3.
Senior Theresa Van Zyl, who claimed the Waco Showdown Wildcard to qualify, will begin main draw singles play at the $80,000 Waco Showdown on Tuesday, Nov. 7. Round one begins at 10 a.m. (CT) at Hurd Tennis Center.
The team will also host Baylor Cub Tennis, a free clinic for kids 14 and under, at 5 p.m. on Tuesday. To participate, kids must wear athletic clothing and shoes. Tennis equipment is provided.
