NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Senior Lenka Broosova continued her stellar play at the ITA National Indoor Championships with two more wins and a spot in the semifinals in New Haven, Conn., on Friday afternoon.
Broosova, ranked No. 23 in the preseason ITA rankings, dropped her first set of the day to fifth-seeded Caitlin Whoriskey of Tennessee, 6-3, but battled back in the second. She took the second set 6-3 and controlled the third set in a 6-2 win to close out the match.
"I am really proud of the way she fought through her first two matches of the tournament," assistant coach Anda Perianu said. "She really competed and built a lot of confidence from passing through those tough moments. You could definitely see how her confidence helped her in her third match."
In her second match of the day, Broosova didn't let up taking down her quarterfinal opponent, Cal's Marina Cossou, in straight sets 6-2, 6-1.
"I am really confident with the way she is playing, and the style of play that we have her playing will give her a great chance tomorrow in her semifinal," Perianu said.
Broosova will take on Irina Falconi of Georgia Tech in the semifinals at 1 p.m. on Saturday at the Cullmen-Heyman Tennis Center on the campus of Yale University.
