Women's Tennis Starts Strong in Palm Springs, Finish In Dallas

Palm Springs, Claif. - Baylor's Stephanie Balzert started off the Womens Fall Desert Classic in Palm Springs, California with a first round win over Edit Pakay of Loyola Marymount 6-4, 6-2, and continued her strong play in the second round when she defeated Melissa Efermo of Southern California 6-4, 2-6, 7-5.

In other singles action, Daria Potapova was defeated by Teresa Simonyan of CS Northridge 1-6, 6-1, 6-1, and began consolation play with a win over Lindsay Blau 6-4, 6-3. Consolation play begins at 8:30 and Main draw play begins at 10:00 on Saturday at the Fall Desert Classic in Palm Springs.

Vida Mulec was defeated by North Carolina's Kendall Cline 5-7, 6-2, 6-1 in the consolation round of the 2002 Omni Hotels National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships at the Brookhaven Country Club in Dallas, Texas.
