SKILLMAN, N.J. - Baylor's women's tennis team will begin the season ranked No. 5, according to the national poll released by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association on Tuesday. Lenka Broosova, ranked 17th, leads four Baylor players ranked in the top 70, while Broosova and Csilla Borsanyi are the lone duo ranked in the doubles poll at No. 13.

The Lady Bears will start 2010 one spot ahead of the No. 6 postseason ranking at the end of last season's run to the national quarterfinals at the NCAA Championship.

Broosova, a senior, enters the season after a strong finish to the fall where she earned a spot in the semifinals of the ITA National Indoors, before losing to Georgia Tech's top-ranked Irina Falconi. Broosova finished the fall with a 7-3 record.

After a great fall season, including a 9-2 record, sophomore Nina Secerbegovic, will start the year ranked No. 24. Secerbegovic won four matches at the ITA Riviera All-American, then won five in a row before falling in the finals at the Wilson/ITA Texas Regional to No. 22 Aeriel Ellis.

Also ranked in the poll is Jelena Stanivuk at No. 55 and Borsanyi at No. 70. Stanivuk played in two fall tournament, compiling a 6-1 record, along with the tournament title at the Midland Racquet Club Invitational. Borsanyi played in the three fall tournament, collecting a 9-2 record and the HEB Invitational Tournament title on her home court.

The 13th-ranked doubles tandem of Broosova and Borsanyi played just one tournament in the fall, going 1-1, but are coming off of last season's NCAA tournament run where they reached the national semifinals before falling to Cal's Mari Andersson and Jana Juricova.

The Lady Bears will begin the spring season with a trip to Las Vegas, Nev., for the Freeman Memorial Tournament at UNLV from Jan. 15-17.
