WACO, Texas - Baylor's 18th-ranked women's tennis team will open its Big 12 Conference schedule against No. 28 Texas Tech at 1 p.m. on Sunday at the Hurd Tennis Center.

"It's always nice when the Big 12 season begins because you know you're in the full swing of the season," head coach Joey Scrivano said. "Outside of that, it's just another match, another way to improve."

After Baylor could not get past Texas A&M, 4-3, the Lady Bears enter the match with an 8-3 record on the season. BU's lineup features one ranked doubles pairing, No. 42 Victoria Kisialeva and Blair Shankle. The duo is 8-1 in the top spot for the Lady Bears. Baylor also has two ranked players in singles action, 38th-ranked Kiah Generette and 56th-ranked Ema Burgic.

"We're just moving in the right direction," Scrivano said. "I think overall, the players have a better understanding that this is a process and you don't become a great tennis player overnight. You have to work at it every day. It's amazing when you consistently put in the work, good things happen."

Texas Tech (9-3) enters the weekend after a 4-3 loss against Auburn. Its lineup features No. 112 Nikki Sanders in singles. On the doubles side, Texas Tech is led by its duo of No. 31 Kenna Kilgo and Samantha Adams.

The last time these two teams met, Baylor defeated Texas Tech, 4-3, on April 21, 2013, in Lubbock, Texas. The Lady Bears are 21-11 in the all-time series against the Red Raiders.

After this weekend's action, BU will travel to Los Angeles, Calif., to play UCLA on March 10 and USC on March 11.
