WACO, Texas - Baylor's ninth-ranked women's tennis team will open their Big 12 Conference schedule this week at Texas Tech, then home against Iowa State. The Lady Bears will be at TTU at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, then back home on Saturday against ISU at noon.
Baylor (6-2) will be looking to bounce back from just its second loss this season, a 4-3 defeat at No. 8 Michigan. After dropping the doubles point in the match, the Lady Bears were able to fight back and tie the match at 2-2, then again at 3-3 before dropping the final match in three sets.
Lenka Broosova, who moved up to No. 8 in the ITA singles rankings, added her sixth consecutive win to open the dual-match season, while Nina Secerbegovic, who improved her record to 8-0 in singles, dropped from No. 25 to No. 41. Csilla Borsanyi moved up to No. 53, Jelena Stanivuk moved to No. 82, and Taylor Ormond is now No. 98. The only Baylor doubles team ranked, that of Broosova and Borsanyi, moved up one spot to No. 11.
Texas Tech enters the match with Baylor with a 5-5 record on the year, including a 3-0 mark at the McLeod Tennis Complex. The Lady Raiders started the year 3-0, but have lost three of their last five. TTU defeated UTA, Tulane and New Mexico at home, took down Southern Mississippi on the road, and beat San Francisco on a neutral site.
Iowa State enters the week with an identical 5-5 record, and will have the entire week to prepare for the Lady Bears. The Cylcones had a four-match winning streak in the middle of their season to date, but have since lost three in a row and are 2-4 on the road.
