WACO, Texas - Baylor junior Lenka Broosova was named the Big 12 Women's Tennis Player of the Week the league office announced on Monday. The weekly honor is the second-straight for Broosova, and the third of her career.
Broosova tallied a 3-0 singles record and a 3-0 doubles record, helping the fourth-ranked Lady Bears to three wins on the week. Against No. 17 Kentucky, Broosova defeated Christine Johnson, 6-3, 6-1, on court two while teaming with Csilla Borsanyi at No. 1 doubles to win in a tiebreaker, 8-7 (4), to help Baylor to the doubles point.
Broosova also tallied two singles and doubles wins in conference play this weekend. Against Iowa State, the junior dropped just two games in her two matches, defeating Maria Macedo, 6-1, 6-1, on court two. Broosova and teammate Jelena Stanivuk rolled over Iowa State, 8-0, on court one doubles. Against No. 58 Nebraska, Broosova won a third set super tiebreaker over Madeleine Geibert, 6-3, 2-6, 14-12, and won singles with Stanivuk, 8-2.
On the season, Broosova is 12-3 in dual match action, including a five-match winning streak and an 8-2 record in her last 10.
Baylor returns to action on Saturday as the Lady Bears travel to face Colorado at 12 noon.
