Zrustova and Dorsch, Big 12 Players of the Week
April 13, 2004 WACO, Texas - Baylor Lady Bears' freshman Klara Zrustova of Vara Karlovy, Czech Republic and junior Benedikt Dorsch of Weiden, Germany have been chosen as Big 12 Conference Women's and Men's Tennis Players of the Week for matches from Apr. 6-12, 2004, the conference office announced Tuesday. Dorsch shares the men's award with Texas A&M junior Lester Cook. Baylor also swept the award last season when Benjamin Becker and Carolin Walter were honored. Zrustova also was 3-0 in singles as the Lady Bears won 2-of-3 matches from Kansas, Kansas State and Texas A&M. She played in the No. 4 singles spot while defeating Texas A&M's Lauren Walker, Kansas' Brittany Brown and KSU's Hayley McIver and was 2-1 in doubles with teammate Daniela Covello. The BU standout advanced to 6-1 in Big 12 singles and 17-9 overall with her fifth consecutive singles victory. Dorsch captured three singles matches in Big 12 intra-league competition and teamed with Matija Zgaga for a pair of doubles wins last week as the Bears clinched their fourth men's conference tennis title in five seasons. He helped BU defeat Oklahoma State 7-0, Texas 7-0 and Oklahoma 6-1 en route to a perfect 7-0 dual match campaign Big 12 play as the No. 3 ITA singles player nationally topped Texas' Antonio Ruiz, OU's Alexei Ivanov and OSU's Mark Van Elden (previously unbeaten in league outings). Dorsch-Zgaga also stopped OU's Ivanov-Matt Long 8-3 and OSU's Yevgen Bondarchuk-Boris Kuharic 9-8 for the No. 2 nationally and 22-2 Bears.
