WACO, Texas - Baylor's No. 15 women's team hosts Texas Tech at the Baylor Tennis Center Sun., April 15 at 1 p.m. The Bears own a 16-6 overall mark and 8-1 Big 12 mark this season entering the weekend. Texas Tech opens weekend action with a 9-8 overall record and 2-5-1 league mark. The Red Raiders will travel to Texas A&M Saturday before coming to Waco Sunday.
Overall Baylor leads the BU-TT series 15-10 since the rivalry began in 1982. Since the organization of the Big 12, BU is 9-1 against the Red Raiders. Baylor head coach Joey Scrivano holds a perfect 4-0 record against Texas Tech.
Baylor and Tech last faced off on April 1, 2006 in Lubbock, Texas. The Bears picked up all six singles points but let the doubles point slip away in their 6-1 victory. Baylor returns four members from last year's lineup, seniors Zuzana Cerna, Iva Mihaylova and Klara Zrustova and junior Zuzana Zemenova.
While the Red Raiders are unranked as a team as well as in the individual polls, BU boasts three ranked singles players and two ranked doubles teams. No. 28 Zemenova leads the Bears in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's rankings. Also in the singles poll are No. 54 Cerna and No. 77 Lenka Broosova. Broosova is also ranked in doubles, No. 36, with partner Zrustova while Zemenova and Mihaylova are slated at No. 52.
In the Bears' last match on Wednesday, Baylor was victorious against Texas A&M 6-1. BU swept singles and handed the Aggies their first conference loss.
