Burgic and Horter each earned were named to the first team, which requires a 3.20 GPA or higher. The league honored a total of 28 women, including 25 on the first team and nine on the second team. Placing two on this year's list, the Lady Bears have now had at least two honorees for the fifth consecutive season.
Burgic, a pre-business major, is Baylor's highest-ranked singles player at No. 10 and leads the team with a 22-5 dual match record in singles. A native of Lukavac, Bosnia & Herzegovina, she went 9-0 in Big 12 singles and 7-2 in doubles playing in the No. 1 spot.
Horter, a pre-business major from Southlake, Texas, has compiled a 5-8 dual match record with a 5-9 record in doubles action. Horter went 1-1 in Big 12 Conference play this season
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
Next up, Baylor will begin the postseason as the No. 1 seed in the Big 12 Conference Championship on April 25-28 in Norman, Okla. The Lady Bears will take on the winner of Thursday's Kansas-Iowa State match at 9 a.m. on Friday.
